Danni Rosner - Piano Actress

  1. What is your first musical memory?

I remember singing along/improvising melodies sitting next to my Dad while he played a Fender Rhodes Stage Piano in the basement of our first house in Virginia. He was big on Charlie Parker, The Doors, Allman Brothers, Beatles, Stones, Black Sabbath, Miles Davis. I can't believe he sold it when we moved overseas…

  2. What was the first concert you ever went to?

I was in 5th grade and we had just moved to Tokyo, Japan. It was my first time venturing out with friends without a chaperone, and we went to see Scatman John. That's right, I said it. And come on- who doesn't remember Beeee ba ba bada bop.

  3. What or whom do you go to for musical inspiration?

I always be-bop around Missy Higgins, Priscilla Ahn, Rachael Yamagata, A Fine Frenzy, Regina Spektor, Gavin DeGraw and Graham Colton.

  4. Without using the words "alternative," "pop,” or "rock," describe your sound.

I'm a singer/songwriter and I play whatever I feel. Sometimes it's serious and soulful, other times it's playful and catchy.

  5. Stones or Beatles?

I grew up mainly on Beatles, but I love me some 'Wild Horses.'

  6. What's your dream collaboration?

Not in any order: Jamie Cullum, because his voice and melodies are smooth, his live performance is inspirational, and his piano playing reminds me of my childhood. And Gavin DeGraw, because he's got an edge and he's clearly not afraid to be himself or tell his story through his music, plus both Jamie's and Gavin's melodies and chord progressions are killer.

  7. Do you find the song or does the song find you?

Tricky question, and hard not to answer without seeming a little off my rocker. It's both. For me, the real "truth" in songs comes when I'm emotionally overwhelmed and the only thing I can do to release is rest my hands on my keys and play. Sometimes a melody comes to me randomly- typically at the worst times- like when I'm driving on 495 and merging to an exit and I'm trying to sing and record it on my iPhone before I forget. This kind of behavior is not advisable by the way…

  8. How do you discover new music?

I always get the best new music suggestions from non-musician-music-lovers- my sister, my best friends, their friends, various music blogs. They've always got a list of great new artists and bands that I should check out, and they're always, always right. Hopefully sometime in the near future, I'll make it on the list too, fingers crossed!
